WHO WE ARE

Welcome to the Seattle TRACON (S46) NATCA Local website. We represent 62 air traffic control specialists and staff personnel. Our facility is located on the west side of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and we handle approach services for the southern and central Puget Sound. The TRACON has over 450,000 operations per year making it the 22nd busiest radar approach facility in the United States. The aircraft we talk to on a daily basis range from small single engine aircraft to brand new multi-engine aircraft thanks to the Boeing facilities at Boeing Field, Renton Municipal, and Paine Field.

We control traffic from as far west as Shelton to as far east as Snoqualmie Pass and as far north as Everett to as far south as Chehalis. Within 40 miles of Seattle-Tacoma International the TRACON controls the airspace from the surface to 15,000msl within 15 miles of Paine from surface to 5,000msl, and within 20 miles of Olympia from surface to 9,000msl. Our radar feed comes from an ASR-9 just south of the TRACON or the ASR-11 on Whidbey NAS and we utilize STARS displays and systems. The operations floor normally has 7 radar positions open for normal operations with the capability of opening an additional 3 if needed.
